Patrick J. (Pat) Broyles

Pat has Cherokee ancestry and is currently serving as a Soil Conservationist with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service at the Plant Materials Center in Manhattan, Kansas. He provides education about plant materials and ethnobotany to the general public, government agencies, and tribes, however his primary job is outreach to Indian tribes. In this work he has developed many educational materials. Pat is also the Northern Plains Representative of his agencys American Indian/Alaska Native Employees Association. He served in the U.S. Army Military Intelligence as a linguist in Vietnam and after service attended Oklahoma State University where he earned a BS in Agriculture in 1975 and a MS in 1978. He has worked for the USDA in two states and five counties. Pat has served as a founding member of SAIGE Board of Directors for the past two years.
