Veronica Vasquez

Veronica is a member of Ventureno Chumash tribe, Ventura, California. She has been involved with SAIGE's development into a working organization for almost four years, but recently decided to take a more active role by running for a position on SAIGE's board of directors. She currently works as Equal Employment Specialist with the Department of the Navy, Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, Point Mugu, California. She has been an EEO specialist since 1986, previously worked in the Staffing and Employment Division. She has been on the Native American/Alaskan Native Employment (NA/AN) Program as either manager or a committee member for over 15 years. She is the diversity chair for the NAVAIR System Command Professional Recruitment Board, overseeing diversity professional entry-level recruitment for 7 NAVAIR bases within the US. She trains Federal managers on equal employment regulations and programs, analyzes activities and employment efforts, and identifies and implements initiatives to eliminating under-representation. In addition to her Special Emphasis Program Manager duties, she manages other EEO programs, including community outreach, student employment, affirmative employment, and prevention of sexual harassment. She has 24 years of experience in Human Resources, including EEO, Staffing and Employee Development. In her statement, she says: "My goals as a SAIGE board member are: Promote and market the SAIGE organization amongst NA/AN in the federal employment sector and to federal agencies officials; Explore initiatives to promote federal employment opportunities to NA/AN on and off the reservations, including students and veterans; Promote advancement and training opportunities to federally employed NA/AN; promote awareness of the NA/AN culture and highlight NA/AN contributions to the federal workforce. I hope to be given the opportunity to service all of you and to promote the goals and objectives of the SAIGE organization."
