Duane is a member of the Confederated Salish Kootenai and Pend D' Oreille tribes located on the Flathead Indian Reservation in western Montana . He is a founding member of the SAIGE Board of Directors, now completing a two year term of office. He currently works as a Technology Coordinator with the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE), a part of the Department of the Interior (DOI), in Denver , CO . Before working for OSMRE, Duane worked for the Bureau of Land Management as an Initial Attack Fire Dispatcher, Scientific Applications International Corporation as a Field Geologist, Bureau of Reclamation as a Geological Intern, US Department of Agriculture as a Smokejumper, and for the National Park Service as a Helitack/Firefighter. He also has worked as a schoolteacher on the Laguna-Acoma Reservation in New Mexico . Duane holds a Masters Degree in Geology and a Bachelors Degree in both Geology and English/Secondary Education. He was a member of the University of Montana cross-country and track-and-field teams 1986-1990 and has six years experience coaching both boys and girls high school cross-country and track-and-field. |
