Fredericka Joseph is an enrolled member of the Kaw Nation of Oklahoma and is from the Night Clan. Her Indian name is Evening Star. She currently works for the Department of the Interior's Bureau of Indian Affairs as the Director, Office for Equal Employment Opportunity Programs. Fredericka has been a career Federal employee for over 22 years beginning her Federal career while her husband was assigned in Augsburg , Germany . She has held a number of interesting positions based on the fact that she was a military spouse for over 20 years. For twelve years Fredericka worked with the Army Community Service (ACS) which is a social service agency that helps military service members and their families with a myriad of social services. During these twelve years she was a trainer, outreach coordinator, Manager, Family Advocacy Specialist and was responsible for yearly holiday food programs for the military families. It was during this time that Fredericka became active with EEO as the Native American Special Emphasis Program Manager. This opened a window to her future career path that began as a GS-3 and eventually led her to her current position as a GS-15. She has been blessed in both her professional and personal life and continues to thank the Creator for all her blessings. She also has been involved in mentoring and strongly believes that everyone should have mentors to help them throughout their career and to be involved with organizations such as SAIGE, FEW, BIG, LULAC, Image, and FAPAC. Fredericka has held various positions in EEO as well as serving as Vice President for the Federal Women's Program Managers and President for the Hispanic Employment Program Managers while at Department of Agriculture. She served as the Secretary for SAIGE for several years and as Chair and Co-Chair for all of the SAIGE's National Training Conferences. Fredericka has served in other Chair capacities and served on numerous Task Force Committees. In addition to these committees she has served as an Advisory Member for several private organizations whose roles are to provide Native students with internship opportunities throughout the Washington metropolitan area. Fredericka is a BIA brat having grown up on 5 different reservations and attended BIA bureau-funded schools. Although Fredericka didn't finish her secondary education right away she continued to attend even while raising her son and daughter and travel from base to base with her husband. This has given her the ability to be flexible and adapt to changes whether at work or in her family life. Fredericka has a son, Clarence, who works with the local Sheriff's department and is a Southern Straight dancer. Her daughter Ericka is a Fellow with the Army Materiel Command. Prior to being selected to this Fellow's program she graduated from Haskell Indian Nations University . Ericka has been the only Native selected for this program in the 6 years the program has been operating. Fredericka and her son and daughter participate in powwows and enjoy the opportunity to meet and make new friends at social gatherings. She and her husband Clarence are very proud of their grown children. |
