Susan Johnson is an enrolled member of Three Affiliated Tribes (Arikara, Hidatsa, and Mandan). She belongs to the Bear Clan and is a relative to the Low Cap Clan by way of her maternal grandfather.
Susan graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Upon graduation, she began her career as a field biologist working in the Forest Health Management Unit, Rocky Mountain Region, Forest Service. Early in 2000, Susan accepted her current position as the Regional Tribal Relations Program Manager, Rocky Mountain Region, Forest Service. In this capacity, Susan works with Tribal Governments and Forest Service line and staff officers regarding natural and cultural resource management issues in Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Kansas.
Susan has been the American Indian Special Emphasis Program Manager for the Rocky Mountain Region for over a decade. In addition to serving as an advisor on matters important to Forest Service leadership and Tribal governments, she along with her colleagues developed a Federal Indian law Course for Line and Staff Officers for the Forest Service and the National Park Service currently celebrating 12 years of continuous implementation.
Susan is an action-oriented individual who believes in the power of inclusion and the creativity of community.
