Vice Chair: Duane Matt

Duane is a member of the Confederated Salish Kootenai and Pend DOreille tribes located on the Flathead Indian Reservation in western Montana. He is a founding member of the SAIGE Board of Directors, now completing a two year term of office. He currently works as a Reclamation Specialist with the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE), a part of the Department of the Interior (DOI), in Charleston, West Virginia. Before working for OSMRE, Duane worked for the Bureau of Land Management as an Initial Attack Fire Dispatcher, Scientific Applications International Corporation as a Field Geologist, Bureau of Reclamation as a Geological Intern, US Department of Agriculture as a Smokejumper, and for the National Park Service as a Helitack/Firefighter. He also has worked as a schoolteacher on the Laguna-Acoma Reservation in New Mexico. Duane holds a Masters Degree in Geology and a Bachelors Degree in both Geology and English/Secondary Education. He was a member of the University of Montana cross-country and track-and-field teams 1986-1990 and has six years experience coaching both boys and girls high school cross-country and track-and-field.
